Typography and Print Series

Typography and Print Series

In this second-year course, I built upon foundational design principles from the first year, focusing on typography, visual hierarchy, and page layout. This culminated in creating a printed book that showcased these concepts.

The course emphasized understanding typography in historical, social, and cultural contexts while refining critical analysis and design problem-solving skills.

I developed a folio demonstrating initiative, collaboration, and innovative solutions across traditional and digital platforms, reflecting my growth as an emerging design professional. By applying theory to practice, critiquing my work, and responding to feedback, I honed my ability to work independently, solve complex problems, and communicate effectively across diverse mediums.

I was tasked with identifying important developments of modern typography within a historical context and their creative application. My goal was to develop a critical analysis that reflects upon the theory and practice of a designer within a broader social, economic, and political context.

This course was crucial in my journey towards becoming a professional graphic designer. It provided me with the opportunity to test my typography and layout solutions against real-world problems, laying the groundwork for me to develop a sophisticated level of type handling.

Furthermore, I critiqued my work against fundamental typographic and communication principles to reflect upon performance feedback, both independently and from external critique, to identify and act on learning and self-improvement opportunities. Lastly, I demonstrated communication skills to present orally, textually, and visually to a variety of audiences.
